Mission:
To promote produce as a "career of choice" for college students.
Objectives:
- Assist in spreading a unified message about the career rewards and opportunities available throughout the produce supply chain.
- Target agribusiness, business, food science, food marketing and culinary students at the college level.
- Utilize professional expertise, experience, leadership ability, integrity, and enthusiasm about the produce industry to communicate career messages on campuses, in classrooms, and at career fairs.
- Align company recruiting efforts with PMA FIT to maximize efforts.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Ability to serve as a representative of the entire produce industry, not just his or her company or industry segment.
- Knowledge of industry and/or subject matter expert in self-selected topic areas.
- Enthusiasm for sharing your career with students.
- Passion for the industry.
- Engaging speaking style.
- Flexibility to attend self-selected school functions.
- Commitment to understanding and communicating PMA FIT tools and services available to students.
Responsibilities:
- Provide PMA FIT with accurate details on personal interests and expertise.
- Respond to PMA FIT engagement requests in a timely fashion.
- Participate in agreed upon career fairs, classroom presentations, and industry events as an industry advisor/mentor.
- Be knowledgeable of and promote Foundation programs to students, faculty and career counselors.
- Request packet of materials from FIT for leave behind at schools as appropriate.
- Personalize and deliver the unified message created by the Foundation and utilize student brochure, video, Powerpoint, and supply chain materials when appropriate.
- Discover ways the Foundation can better market student programs on campus by utilizing existing school tools and communicate back to Foundation.
- Discover and communicate additional ways the Foundation can work with the university.
- Provide PMA FIT with a recap of all connections or communications made with the university (including student names and email address and faculty and university contacts).
- Ambassadors are encouraged to promote their individual companies in conjunction with the unified industry message.
- Maximize ambassador engagement by visiting the career counselor office to introduce the Foundation, your company and ensure they have copies of the produce career materials.
Requirements:
- Be a member of the Produce Marketing Association.
- Be knowledgeable of the Foundation's initiatives and services and be willing to promote them.
- Participate in volunteer training.
- Complete an evaluation on the experience.
