Leadership Symposium speakers Nour, Kelly help attendees start 2010 with fresh ideas
Newark, Del. – Produce industry leaders who want to start the New Year fresh can learn how to inspire true innovation among their associates and lead by example by attending the 2010 Produce Marketing Association Foundation for Industry Talent (PMA FIT) Leadership Symposium when it convenes in January. 2009 attendee Dave Masser, vice president of sales for Sterman Masser, Inc. called the event "a great way to make New Year's resolutions for your business come true."
After a first-day emphasis on leadership on the global and community scale, the second day's focus will shift to leadership on a company and personal level. Two leadership experts will challenge attendees on a more micro level at the Jan. 13-15 event that is being conducted in partnership with Cornell University.
The 2010 Leadership Symposium will be held at the Omni Dallas Park West in Dallas, Texas, USA. It is designed for senior leaders from across the produce supply chain. To ensure an intimate, personal learning and networking environment, attendance at this event is limited to 100.
David Nour, managing partner of The Nour Group Inc., will help attendees create adaptable business models for changing market demands, and develop a relationship-centric culture. In addition, attendees will gain an understanding of innovation — what it is, and is not; how to produce it and most importantly, how to avoid the myths of innovation and break the habit of falling back on traditional methods of adding value. Author of Relationship Economics and The Entrepreneur's Guide to Raising Capital, Nour helps companies battle business model and talent erosion as well as identify and reignite stagnant areas of business.
"It's not very often that our industry leaders have the opportunity to get away from their daily responsibilities and focus on the big picture. That's why we offer the Leadership Symposium and bring in these high-level speakers. We believe that if we can strengthen our leaders, we will strengthen the produce industry," said Bryan Silbermann, PMA President & CEO.
It's an opportunity past attendees have appreciated. "I had the opportunity to attend the 2009 PMA Leadership Symposium and felt privileged to meet so many others in the industry and share the wealth of their expertise," said Debi Jacobs, senior sales/procurement manager for The Kroger Co. "I left the event energized about the future of our industry and appreciated the talent of the individuals that I met."
The final second-day session led by Matthew Kelly, president of Floyd Consulting and author of The Dream Manager, will focus on leadership at a personal level and challenge attendees to develop a personal strategic plan. He will help attendees to identify their strengths, weaknesses, goals and critical success factors as elements of a personal plan that should parallel and complement their corporate plan. Once executives have a personal strategic plan, they can help their team members understand the importance of successful personal and corporate planning and develop their own plans. Kelly will explain how to apply a variety of traditional and innovative strategic planning exercises to their personal and professional lives.
The Leadership Symposium features break-out sessions led by professional facilitators and an opportunity to ask questions of all four 2010 speakers: Nour, Kelly, Joe Pine and Seth Kahan. These sessions are designed to help attendees adapt and apply the strategies to their businesses.
Space is still available for the 2010 symposium; register by Dec. 4 to save more than $200 on the registration fee. PMA members receive significant discounts. Visit www.pma.com/leadership for more information and to register.
