Leadership Symposium speakers Pine, Kahan challenge attendees to disrupt market, build effective business communities

Newark, Del. – Leaders don't respond to a market. They disrupt it to their advantage! Produce industry leaders can learn how to harness disruption on a global and community level and turn roadblocks into innovative solutions at the 2010 PMA FIT Leadership Symposium, to be held Jan. 13-15 in partnership with Cornell University at the Omni Dallas Park West, Dallas, Texas, USA.

Industry leaders make an impact on all levels, macro to micro, internally and externally, and the symposium's educational program features four top leadership speakers to build collaboration and challenge attendees on strategy and innovation. Fresh topics for the 2 1/2-day event are selected yearly for their timeliness and usefulness to the produce industry. On the first day, Joe Pine will challenge companies to view what they do differently and understand their role in today's highly-competitive global market. An internationally acclaimed speaker, author of Authenticity: What Consumers Really Want and management advisor to Fortune 500 companies, Pine will drive attendees to confront traditional business assumptions and emerging market phenomena.

Symposium attendees in 2009 came away with a broader view of their role in the global economy, the industry and the market they serve. "I came to learn more about personal leadership skills, but received challenging insights that add greater value to my organization," said Dave Allen, vice president of sales and marketing for Hardie's Fruit & Vegetable Co., LP.

Seth Kahan will draw from nature to disrupt the notion of top-down leadership and introduce a community-based strategy. Author of Building Beehives: A Handbook for Creating Communities That Generate Returns, he has spent years focusing on the elements of effective business communities and the positive results they can have on a company's return on investment. He will address three forces that leaders must optimize: business benefits, community concerns and participant payoffs. He shows business leaders how to create buy-in among their most valuable players – many of whom will be represented at the event.

"I put the Leadership Symposium on my list every year," said Randy Scott, category manager at Food Lion, LLC and a 2009 attendee. "What a great way to begin the year by getting the mind back in gear and ready to tackle a new set of challenges. The timing is perfect, and we always have a great group of speakers as well as a lively participant group. I am always thinking about how I will try to recreate a mini version of the event to provide valuable content to our team back in the office. I highly recommend the Leadership Symposium, and if you have not experienced it, now is a good time to start."

Register for the symposium by Dec. 4 to save more than $200 on the regular registration fee. Visit www.pma.com/leadership for more information and to register.
