Anaheim, Calif. –The PMA Foundation for Industry Talent (PMA FIT) hosted its first annual Live FIT 5-kilometer run/walk Oct. 2 at the Anaheim Marriot Hotel, Anaheim, Calif., USA. Medals were given to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top two male and female finishers in each age group.

The top overall male finishers were:
Jamie Moracci of Pure Hothouse Foods, Inc., with a time of 16 minutes 55 seconds.
Michael Rotter of Highline Produce, Ltd., 18:53.
Marco Munoz of Frontera Produce, Ltd., 19:12.

The race — which attracted a capacity crowd of 250 runners and walkers — was held in conjunction with PMA's 2009 Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition, Oct. 2-5. Participants enjoyed a double loop course around the Anaheim Convention Center on the outskirts of the world-famous Disneyland property. An awards ceremony followed promptly to recognize the winners. The race raised nearly $30,000 for the foundation.

"Our thanks go out to every participant for supporting a great industry cause," said Bill Schuler of the Castellini Group of Companies, chairman of PMA FIT's Board of Directors and incoming chairman of PMA's board. "We are gratified to have such a great response for a first-time event."

Also on Friday, a silent auction and raffle held during the Fresh Perspectives: Women's Leadership Event raised $17,200 for the foundation. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was the speaker at the Fresh Perspectives event.

Proceeds from the race and the auction/raffle will fund PMA FIT programs to attract, develop and retain talent for the fresh produce value chain.
