PMA Foundation expands 2009 Fresh Summit Career Fair

Newark, Del. – On the heels of a successful inaugural career fair at the 2008 PMA Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition, PMA's Foundation for Industry Talent (PMA FIT) is planning an even bigger event for 2009. Early registration was provided to foundation contributors and past career fair participants; this event is now open to the industry for general registration through July 17.

This year, the Fresh Summit Career Fair is sponsored by Stemilt Growers to posthumously honor respected industry veteran and Stemilt founder, Tom Mathison. The 2009 event is nearly doubling in size, both in terms of the number of companies and the number of students participating. Twenty-five companies will participate this year, up from 15 in 2008; in addition to 2009 Pack Family/PMA Career Pathways scholarship recipients and alumni, students from four local universities will be able to participate in the 2009 fair. The local schools are: University of California, Riverside; California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; Chapman University; and California State University, Fresno.

Whether a company is looking to fill one opening or five, the PMA FIT Career Fair is a great opportunity to meet bright, young talent with an interest in a fresh produce career. Companies also benefit from gaining exposure with universities and educators who work closely with the foundation to place students in jobs. To ensure a productive and successful experience for all companies participating, the career fair offers secured, prescheduled interviews, as well as the comfort of a traditional career fair, all at an affordable price.

"We are excited at the opportunity we have to build on the success of last year's event," said Cindy Seel, PMA FIT executive director. "Utilizing Fresh Summit as a platform for connecting bright, young talent with strong companies in our industry is just one of the many ways we are actively promoting careers in fresh produce to our student audience."
